Bon Chat, Bon Rat - Selftitled EP (2010)

Sydney band Bon Chat, Bon Rat have a rare quality before you even
listen to them- a great name. It's an old French saying (and the
French are always cool) that describes how two enemies grow stronger
in trying to outwit each other. A good a way as any to
approach their music.

Their self-titled EP (which they were kind
enough to share for free off their MySpace page) is a blend of several
electronic styles you've probably heard before, but they're so well
constructed that you probably won't mind. What makes Bon Chat Bon Rat
worth listening to is their ability to blend seemingly opposing styles
together in a way that makes sense.

The obligatory 80's synth lines are there, because this is a band with
electronic instruments and such things are inevitable, but careful
listeners will note some jazzy Talk Talk-style atmospherics, heavy
industrial beats here and there and some surprising vocal harmonies.
Opener 'Map of Sao Paulo' and closer 'Nowhere Paradise' work best,
both fast paced tracks that flutter between styles with grace and
charm

Bon Chat, Bon Rat are like an hour of Rage condensed into song, if you
don't like what you hear just wait a few minutes and see what comes
next.
