Live Review: Kingswood + Lurch & Chief + The Belligerents – The Gov, Adelaide (20.03.15)

A motley crowd furnished the sold-out Gov, cramming into cosy booths and littering the floor with boisterous bodies. Long hair dominated the night, complemented by ravaged denim and frosty beers in hand. Alternating between wild thrashing and laid-back jams, Adelaide received the very best of both worlds.

Live Review: Vance Joy + #1 Dads + Airling – Thebarton Theature, Adelaide (21.03.15)

Vance Joy

Every teenage girl’s heart-throb Vance Joy was welcomed to Thebarton Theatre by house full of screaming pre-teens (cheers to all ages gigs, huh) and their fathers as part of his Dream Your Life Away tour.

Opening for Joy was last year's national Unearthed Splendour in the Grass winner Airling. By now we know what we’re going to get with Airling - a vibrating mix of electronic and drum beats propelling her ethereal vocals over the crowd like a haze. And boy, what a set of pipes she has. Fun fact: she’s the cousin of acoustic guitar-toting Jack Carty who you should definitely check out also.

Photo Gallery and Live Review: Damian Cowell's Disco Machine + Central Deli Band + Disco Puppets - The Jade, Adelaide (20.03.15)

Damian Cowell threw us all back into the 90's when he bought his Disco Machine to town. A disco is a school hall at the end of grade three and there’s one tube of fairy lights strung across a table with someone’s big sister DJing - THAT’s a disco. This is a machine...

Extravagant sets, prismatic lighting and heavily sequinned outfits enveloped Adelaide on Tuesday night, heralding the return of pop princess Kylie Minogue on her Kiss Me Once tour. Adelaide Festival Review: Danny Elfman's music from the films of Tim Burton - Adelaide Entertainment Centre (14.03.15)

The Australian premiere of Danny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton was extravagant, dramatic and absolutely superb. Blending the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra’s world-renowned precision with unearthly tones and macabre imagery, the night was a mesmerising journey into familiar fantasies and foreign realities.

Adelaide Festival Review and Photos: Beauty and the Beast - Dunstan Playhouse (12.03.15)

Beauty and the Beast is a sumptuous play about love and disability. The play opens unconventionally with lead actors Mat Fraser and Julie Atlas Muz sitting on stage in street clothes addressing the audience about what the play represents. Fraser was born with phocomelia of both arms, due to his mother being prescribed thalidomide during her pregnancy. Julie was a former beauty queen and burlesque dancer. This introduction serves to break down the traditional wall between audience and actors.

Live Review: Brooke Fraser + Hayden Calnin - The Gov, Adelaide (14.03.15)

As the second stop on her Australian “Brutal Romantic” tour, Brooke Fraser performed a thoroughly enjoyable show at the Gov, Adelaide to a rather small crowd of around 200. It was Brooke’s third time at the venue and she seemed to enjoy it even though numbers lacked; any lulls in the audience were made up for in unbridled enthusiasm from those in attendance, as a predominantly female audience gathered and prepared to sing their hearts out or sit back around tables to view from a comfortable distance.
